Research subject areas :

Following work on the history of traditional ideas on Hobbes, Harrington, and the principal English radicals of the 17th century (Lilburne, Overton, Winstanley, the first Quakers), my research has moved its focus to cultural history.

My interest in the broadest sense is in the cultural and intellectual history of the relationship between politics and religion in the British Isles in modern times. I study the function of popular cultures and political beliefs in the political and social expression of dissent.
